Discontinuance of Ecclesiastical Grants.
Bishop Burdon acquiesces in favour of – and Col. Chaplain proposes change. Governor is inclined to support the Col. Chaplain, he has sounded many of the leading members and has found that they are not opposed to these grants.
(Minutes.)
M. Ebden.
The Governor does not recommend the discontinuance of the ecclesiastical grants but it appears to me to be the only satisfactory solution to the question: Some small allowance should be given for religious attendance at gaol & hospital by both Roman Catholic and Anglican clergymen.
I should be inclined to consider how far the government officials are entitled to gratuitous medical assistance.
Bishop Burdon's letter is a sensible one.
